Term: Spring 2024

“Vaso Carretas Park” consists of three major elements: a garden, a market, and a shrine. The design intent behind the park is to foster community and honor water. The success of the park is conceptualized on shared responsibility of residents who participate in its maintenance through weeding or watering the garden. This collective effort not only fosters a sense of ownership and pride within the community but also ensures the sustainability and success of the garden. The central design element of the park is to embrace the dynamic ebb and flow of water by designing to respect its constant change. The park design incorporates lines and and shapes that respect the movement of water and create a harmonious blend between the built environment and the natural elements. Furthermore, the park’s landscaping is thoughtfully designed to complement the shifting water levels, with native vegetation strategically planted to thrive in both wet and dry conditions. This dynamic approach not only adds visual interest but also promotes biodiversity and ecological resilience within the park ecosystem. By honoring the transformative power of water, the park creates a serene and enchanting environment that inspires reverence towards water while also calling attention to and addressing issues such as water resilience and scarcity around the neighboring colonias.
