There are two design elements for this project: a landscape design to provide flood and fire resilience and a multi-use recreational & maintenance center design that is affordable and efficient. The landscape proposal for the area is to provide a recessed gabion meadow pit tank designed after several precedents in Australia and in Los Lunas. A series of river branching and berming strategies create a fire break, act as a flood debris management system, serve as a filtering process to recharge ground water, and provide a nature trail. The recreation center proposal is separated into two nearby buildings. The first is a multipurpose space which can adapt to a variety of uses ranging from a nature center to a space for small community social gathering. The second building is a workshop space for those working and specializing in fire resilience.
