Chamizal Eco-tone is a recreational park necklace marrying several existing revitalized and new green spaces with two major design goals. First, industrialization interrupted native birds and plant species that would typically seek refuge or grow along the Rio Grande River. Chamizal Eco-tone provides a no mans refuge island which encloses and shelters animals and plants in order to reintroduce these species into their historical habitable areas. Second the cities of Juarez, Mexico and El Paso, Texas have become more socially separated over the years. Chamizal Eco-tone attempts to bring these communities together by providing beautiful sports and recreational spaces as well as open areas of leisure and relaxation. Using religious markers and historical border zone information throughout these spaces helps celebrate their shared history and blur the boundary at the border.
